Well, I woke up from my nap today, and found that the kitchen had been cleaned. I don’t know who did it, and I haven’t heard any discussion about it at all. It was just suddenly clean.

Well, the big bag of flower has escaped the trash pile, but the extra pizza box or two hasn’t. Still no word on when my lazy roommates will give in and take their turn at taking out the garbage.

Get a Mac Buddy!

Posted in Funnyon Mar 25, 2005

Some people just need a mac. What are they doing with that big old windows laptop?

I go into one of my classes a few minutes late. Someone had brought a power strip with a long cord and plugged it in to one of the only avaiable outlets in the room, and then the cord went up the isle a couple of rows. At first I thought it might be for something important, but as I looked closer, I found that someone was using it simply to plug in their laptop.

Please, people. If your laptop doesn’t have enough battery power to allow you to get by without hauling your power supply (and a power strip!) around with you, then you really don’t have a laptop, just a portable computer. Buy a mac! 5 hours of battery life. No power strip needed!

Great garbage cold war – day 5

Posted in Socialon Mar 24, 2005

People must see the can because more garbage gets stacked on. Since I took this picture, another empty bottle of juice and an empty bottle of milk have joined the war. The bag of flower is not part of the war, it was just left there, but if things get worse, it might become a casualty.

Tip for BYU students

Rent a locker. It took me too long to figure out that you can rent lockers for just a couple of bucks a semester and it is worth it. Find where you do most of your studying, and get a locker near there. Keep some food, some headphones, maybe some music in your locker. A couple of pens and some paper just incase you show up on campus without any.

The great trash cold war – day 4

Posted in Socialon Mar 24, 2005

Today is day 4 of the great trash cold war. This is where everyone in the apartment seems to refuse to take out the garbage and the pile just gets larger and larger. It started when one of the roommates emptied the garbage and didn’t put a bag in the can. The two of us who normally take out the garbage decided that we aren’t going to do it this time because there isn’t a bag in the can. One of the other two roommates should take it out, especially because they never do it anyway.

Its becoming interesting to see how big of a pile of garbage can be tolerated before it is emptied.

And the pile is getting pretty big. There are two pizza boxes, a big icecream cake box, an old bottle of milk, a moldy loaf of bread. The pile has grown to its maximum height and now is taking up a couple of times more floor space than the garbage can normally does.

Suggestion for PEAR

Posted in Technicalon Mar 16, 2005

I just have a short suggestion for PEAR, the PHP Extension and Application Repository. PHP version 5 includes the capability to have interfaces, which are like a definition or description for classes which implement the interface. PEAR should provide a bunch of interfaces for various things, such as database interfaces, authentication schemes, user managment systems, etc. Read the rest of this entry »
