Two Weeks and Counting

Posted in Lifeon May 30, 2005

19 days ago we received a letter informing the residents of University Villa that bathrooms would be remodeled. This letter claimed that the process would take two weeks.

14 days ago they ripped out the bathtubs.

Over the next 14 days, they seem to have unpacked new bathtubs and put them in place, but only in some of the apartments. In some apartments, the new bathtubs are still sitting in the living room or other areas.

5 days ago they told residents that they would be done on time, but to wait until Monday (today) before moving back in just to be sure.

The bathrooms are still not done. The water is still turned off. We cannot move back in.

It has now been two weeks since they’ve started. At the rate its been going, it will probably be at least another two weeks before they might be close to finishing.

Wordpress Upgrade

Posted in Bloggingon May 29, 2005

I upgraded Wordpress today from 1.5 to 1.5.2. Wordpress is one of the easier php packages to upgrade mainly because it saves the settings all in the database and my theme in a custom directory that isn’t overwritten when untar-ing a new version.

What is a date

Posted in Religionon May 29, 2005

Recently in church we’ve been talking about dating. I guess thats what I get for being in a student ward. Anyway, today in one of our meetings we went over Elder Oaks’ CES Fireside talk: The Dedication of a Lifetime.

In this talk, Elder Oaks describes what a date is:

A date€ must pass the test of three p’€™s: (1) planned ahead, (2) paid for, and (3) paired off.

A lot of my dates recently haven’t cost me any money, so I guess they are paid for. I think the biggest problem is with planning ahead. I like to do a lot of things randomly, without planning ahead a lot. How much planning ahead counts? A few minutes, an hour or two? What if its something I’ve considered for a couple of days, but only asked the girl a few hours a head of time? Is that planning ahead?

DTR 2

Posted in Socialon May 29, 2005

I heard this today and I thought it was interesting enough to share.

Lets compare growing a relationship between two people to growing a plant. To frequent DTRs are like pulling the plant up to examine its roots. Its not going to grow very well that way. If, however, you are concerned with nurturing it, then it is more likely to grow.

University Villa Utilities Bill

Posted in Lifeon May 25, 2005

I got my first utilities statement from University Villa today. Not only did the meter readings on the bill pre-date my move-in date, but they also included a $5 move in fee and a $2 billing fee. I was pretty sure that these fees were never disclosed to me in the contract.

The Quiet in the Morning

Posted in Writingson May 23, 2005

Just before the sun breaks,
The crickets finally sleep.
Just before the sun wakes,
The silence they do keep.

The colors of great dreams, they die;
Instead they fill the morning sky.
First pinks then blues, a pastel yellow,
Illuminates the peacefull meadow.

Triumphant is the new day’s sun.
Yet peaceful, silent, does it come.
The bright light from its morning rays,
Reminds us that now are better days.

So wipe the sleep out,
And open your eyes.
Outside, look about!
Beautiful morning skies.
