Sometimes you look in the mirror and you have a “I’m fat and ugly” thought. Other times you look in the mirror and think, “I don’t look so bad. My extra efforts exercising must be paying off.”
Today I had the second thought. I think it might have something to do with my new haircut.
Unfortunately, with all the candy and chocolate that I’m likely to eat today, I don’t think that these thoughts will last long.

Some people say that it is interesting to write down your dreams.
So last night, when I was having a series of interesting dreams, I decided to write them down so I would remember them.
The problem was, that I was still asleep when I decided to write them down, and was writing them down in my dreams. So when I woke up, all my dream notes disappeared into forgotteness with the rest of my dreams.

I just read the most recent BYU police beat, and found it more rediculous than usual. For example, the next time you decide to play hop-scotch on a Provo sidewalk, you may be vandalizing:
Oct. 25: Police discovered the name of a Web site written in chalk on the sidewalk in Provo. This is considered graffiti.
I wish sometimes the police would arrest a vending machine. Not only are the costs of the inclosed junk food so high that they rob the poor, but I’ve frequently had vending machines eat my coins without giving me the food. Inspite of these vending machine crimes (against me!) apparently there have been some other vending machine crimes:
Oct. 27: Four vending machines were broken into in the Richards Building. The offenders pried open the machines and removed the coin boxes. Accounting is being done to determine how much money was stolen. This is part of a string of vending machine burglaries and is currently under investigation.
And since when was pushing at a basketball game a criminal offense? Usually it just warrents a fowl:
Oct. 24: A BYU student and a visitor had a heated verbal exchange during a pick-up basketball game in the Richards Building. At one point, one of them pushed the other.
As a bonus, I read about someone who had a GPS stolen out of his car:
Oct. 26: A student reported a stolen Garmin GPS that was taken from a parked car with a smashed window. The stolen property was valued at $900.
$900 for a GPS?!? That student did get robbed–by the store that charged him $900 for a GPS! (They usually run $150-$300).

On the LDS Media Talk Blog, there was a post about the growth of the Internet. I wondered if the growth has been increasing or decreasing, or if it is reaching a plateau.
To answer that question, I decided to plot the numbers on a logarithmic scale:
Using a logarithmic scale, it is easy to see the rate of growth. As you can see, up until 1997 there was a very substantial growth. In 1996, for example, the Internet grew by 900%. Between 1998 and 2001 growth slowed so that it only (on average) doubled in each of those years. Since then, we’ve established a slower, yet still substantial rate of doubling only every two or three years.

Consider this stereotypical political advertising message:
My opponent said, “<5 word out-of-context phrase>.” He is out of touch with mainstream America.
I will lower taxes to middle-class citizens, increase benefits by lowering costs, and increase jobs by improving the economy. Vote for me.
My beef with politics right now is that candidates are picking apart the details of their opponents plan without even providing the details of their own plan.
I think we need to look at the details of the plans and strategies of the candidates we plan to vote for. Plans such as “increase jobs by improving the economy” are extremely vague and are likely to be empty campaign promises.
Demand to know, “How are you going to improve this or that?” and “How to you plan to pay for these improvements?” Demand to know the details. Always ask one more how question.

Last night I had a dream that I was at Costco, except this Costco had two different floors, and you got between them with an escalator. The problem was getting the shopping cart between the floors, so in my dream they had this special shopping cart escalator where you could put your shopping car and then claim it again on the other floor.
