I see lots of kids of all ages hiking the Y. Anyone who can walk a mile or two should be able to hike it.

You should make sure you carry lots of water. Everyone should have at least half a liter of water, although if it is hot I suggest a full liter per person. You should allow yourself about 45 minutes to an hour on the way up, and about half an hour on the way down.

There are 10 switchbacks on the trail up, and they are numbered. The first three are the hardest, so don't get discouraged if they seem really difficult or are taking you a long time.

Hello Jacob.
I am in So Cal and will be in Utah this weekend. I wanted to take my kids ages 9, 7 and 3 to hike the Y. You sound like a semi professional "Y hiker" so I just need some info on how hard of a climb it is, how long it takes if you are not in a hurry, and any recommendations you may have as this is our maiden climb.

Thanks!
