Go to and buy a gift card.  Choose “Instant Delivery: Email” and send the gift card to your own email.  When paying for the gift card, make sure you use your prepaid credit card number and the full remainder of the Visa gift card balance.

In just a couple of minutes after purchasing the gift card, you will get it in your email.  Then you apply the gift card balance to your account, and use it on your next Amazon purchase.

Since it is difficult to use the exact balance just by shopping at stores, this is a good way to clean every last cent off that card.  Also, a good way to “regift” that Visa gift card by turning it into an Amazon card that you can give to someone else.

Friends and family

Posted in Blogging, Lifeon Jul 13, 2011

I’ve started a new family blog, but we’ve decided not to make it publicly accessible.  Unlike other “private” blogs which can only be accessed to the specially invited after they’ve logged in, we’ve taken a different “trivia” approach.  There are a couple of trivia questions, and those who know at least one answer will be granted access, without special invites or logging in.

Of course I know that some friends and family won’t know any of the trivia answers, but hopefully if they want access they can ask Sandy or I and we’ll tell them a trivia answer.

Leave a comment if you would like to provide feed back on how you like this trivia-access thing, or if you have suggestions about what trivia questions we should be asking.  On the blog, I’ve recently written about the latest thunderstorm to come through the area.

Someone new in my life

Posted in Lifeon Apr 27, 2010

Earlier this month, on April 2nd, I wrote: “I have someone new in my life that I haven’t met yet.”  Well, I finally met him this last weekend.  This is Maxwell, my new nephew, who was born on April 1st.

The wrong hangup

Posted in Lifeon Apr 16, 2010

Today I was at work, and I was talking with Sandy using my headset, while at the same time using my computer.  When the conversation was over, I meant to hang up the phone, but instead I closed the program I was using on my computer.

I guess I can’t multi-task.

I’m still alive

Posted in Lifeon Apr 2, 2010

I know it has been a while since I’ve written a blog post, so to let you know that I’m still alive, here is a top three list of things on my mind:

  • Fringe is a really interesting TV show.
  • Three people resigned at work in the last month.  Will there be more?
  • I have someone new in my life that I haven’t met yet.

Otherwise, things have really been busy and there has been a lot going on, just nothing too terribly exciting that warrants writing a blog post.

Doorbell fix

Posted in Lifeon Jan 18, 2010

Sandy isn’t the only one around here that can do some home improving.  Today I replaced our door bell with one that doesn’t look 20 years old. Here is a picture, the old switch is on the left:

Last Halloween I observed the little kids trying find the doorbell, I thought I would put in something that would stand out a little better.  The new doorbell has a button that lights up.

Preparing for thanksgiving

A few thoughts I have today:

  • I still haven’t packed, and I still have laundry in the washer
  • I feel like I’m getting a sore throat, and I’m really worried about traveling when I’m sick
  • Trying to figure out how Sandy and I can buy presents for each other without it showing up on any of the bank statements (cash?)
  • I think I want to watch the latest Doctor Who special on the airplane
  • While I’m thinking of it… I must return the DVDs of Pushing Daisies back to the library before leaving.
  • I’m creating a document of things I need to pack or do before leaving, and I really feel like I’m missing something because the list seems too short.  Although I usually end up packing too much, so maybe this is a good thing.
  • I can’t believe I’m flying on one of the busiest flying days of the year.
  • TripIt rocks.
  • Disney promotes pirates with their Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but yet they don’t like it when people pirate their movies?  (Random thought, I know)
  • I really hope that the traffic to the airport will be ok.  Also, that the parking, check-in lines, and security lines will not be a hassle.  I just checked and they are already into “overflow” parking in the economy lots.  This should be interesting.
