That chair is worth how much?

From a recent BYU Police Beat:

June 2: An office chair was taken from the Faculty Office Building. The chair is valued at $900

The real shocker here is that BYU is paying $900 for office chairs. That does sound like theft.

I have a roommate who works in that building, which is actually undergoing construction. That chair isn’t the only thing to be stolen, many things are being stolen. In fact the doors are kept unlocked in this transitional phase…

Didn’t the Chemistry CS department have some really expensive chairs? I seem to recall something about how only the President and Board of Trustees could have leather chairs, so we had to get the more expensive fabric ones… Maybe said faculty member was one position short of a Trustees chair, so he had to get a 900 buck carbon fiber and cashmere one.

@justin : The standard chairs that we used at the chemistry department were only in the $400 and $500 range.

Nice, durable Steelcase brand chairs, like they use at Church headquarters usually have GREAT warranties and are repaired on-site by trained staff. When I worked there (not too long ago) the warranties were 5-, 10-, and 15-years long. These were quality products, built to last. I don’t know what they are using down at the BYU.
