@Gary – My main point isn’t whether or not Wyview is technically on campus, but to illustrate that Wyview isn’t close to main campus. Many Freshman buy their housing online without ever visiting BYU, and the fact that it is called “on-campus housing” could lead them to think that it is close to main campus, which it is not.

However, Gary, your comment does illustrate well that Wyview is not on main campus, differentiating between “campus” and “main campus.” Traditionally, “on-campus” housing for single students (Heritage Halls, Helaman Halls, Deseret Towers) were located either on or adjacent to “main campus.” This is a distinction that Wyview does not hold.

Not only is it on campus, but you can walk from Wyview to the main campus without actually ever leaving campus.

A couple of years later, I would like to make another small comment. In spite of how far Wyview is from campus, it could still be a great deal for many students. The above information isn’t meant to discourage students from living there, but simply to make them aware of the situation before they decide to live there. I still feel like advertising Wyview as “on-campus housing” is deceptive, but hopefully the above information will clarify the situation.

I think this information is great. My son is an imcoming Freshman and it is nice to know how far Wyview actually is from the campus. Thank you Jacob. This info. will help us make an informed decision where we should apply for housing.

This might be kind of a silly reason why it’s considered on campus, but there Wyview is in between a campus building (the Ellsworth building I think) and the main body of the campus. On the other side (south side) of Wyview are the intramural fields, but then again just diagonally southeast from those fields is the Raintree apartments or something like that, and they aren’t considered on campus, so that’s a tough question. Is it really that important? I hope you’re doin’ ok even though it may seem a bit confusing. I think they have good reasons, and would probably share them with you if you asked.

One of my friends suggested that they use the phrase “University Owned Housing” rather than “On-campus Housing.” I think it is a great idea.

Wow, anonymous guy. That’s a bit over the top. I’ve known Jacob pretty well for several years, and I certainly don’t think that he’s as bad as your comments paint him to be–not even close. Of course, you may think differently, but personally attacking him on his own blog is pretty uncool.

Who really cares if it’s on campus or not? I have a hard time understanding how someone really has time to care! Do you live there? Are you ever getting married? No! So, it doesn’t really matter or have any relevance. I don’t understand you, and as you state, I probably don’t know you. Oh yes, I do. You are a rude person with no point. Your blogs are pointless, and I doubt it’s really amusing anyone. If one reader told you to “get a life” I agree. You waste way too much time insulting others, when you need to work on yourself. When you are perfect and flawless (never), then work on correcting others. But until then, why don’t you stop complaining about everything you can think of! Complaining won’t get you anywhere. If you ever go on a date, you’ll learn that complaining is a turn off to the ladies. If you wish to get married, you’ll realize it won’t happen until you stop complaining and putting others down. Start with that.
