Like swarming bees, questions of life
by Jacob on Dec.29, 2006, under General
I had a lot of time to think today driving from Oregon to Utah. I found that I have a lot of questions about myself, and about life in general. Here are a few of them:
- Which is better: an introverted or extroverted personality?
- What is love and how do I know if I’ve found it?
- Is it more important to know what something is, or how to use it?
- Why are some people stupid?
- What life questions are interesting?
- What is beautiful?
- What causes procrastination?
- Does the Internet help or hinder social interactions?
- How can I make the world a better place?
- Who is the greatest superhero of all time?
- Is making out bad?
- What is spirit made out of?
- Do people have a particular destiny?
- Should we stick with a strict grammar, or let grammar evolve with culture?
- Is it bad to play drinking games with root beer?
- Is Microsoft an evil empire?
- Do bloggers and social network users give away their privacy?
- Is the war in Iraq really worth it?
- If no one buys any tickets for a movie, do they still show it?
- How can Darth Vader breath and talk at the same time?
- Where is home?
- What makes me the most happy and what makes me the most sad?
- What are my greatest ambitions?
- Where can I find a day with 26 hours?
- How do you know if someone is a true friend?
- How do I get people (extended family) to stop pestering me about not being married?
- What is better, hot or cold?
- Is it normal to create a todo list for your vacation?
- If love were a food, what would it taste like?
- When does obsession become addiction?
- What exactly is a crush and how long can they last?
- How can we love without putting ourselves in a position to be hurt?
- Is it bad to pick your nose always, or only when you are in public?
- At what point do you start feeling like an adult?
- Why do some people get worked up over things so trivial?
- Am I soft or weak if I cry when I’m all alone?
- What causes the Earth to spin?
- Where is the most romantic place to share a kiss?
- Why do people hate?
- How do I learn how to become what I want to be?

Jacob, how did you keep track of these as you drove? Do you have a pad of paper with you? I usually have many thoughts as I’m on the road, but haven’t found a good way of annotating them all. Right now I save them as voice memos on my cell phone, but often forget to listen to and record them until much later..

Acutally, only a few of these I thought up while driving. The rest took me about a week of incremental editing to get down.

Lots of good questions there, Jacob. I wonder a lot of the same things.

Yup Chelsea, I bet you are just dying to know what happens if no one buys tickets to a movie.

I would hate to bug Whitney, so I did a little bit of research. I turns out that yes they still show a movie, even if no one shows up for it. The reason why is that there is always a possibility that someone will show up late for the movie, and the movie needs to be already running to keep to their schedule. Also, in some multi-screen theaters, they reuse the same film on multiple projectors, so in this case all projectors showing the film need to be running, or none of them can.
