White all-sports t-shirts

Dear BYU Athletic Department,

For years you have been encouraging fans to wear blue to BYU athletic events. I’ve head commentary about how people don’t wear blue to BYU games, that every other color in the rainbow is also represented.

Some of that is true. BYU is an environment where people feel like they have to dress to impress, and so people are more likely to wear some nice shirt than a blue BYU shirt because they think it will be more impressive to dress nicely.

There are also mixed messages being given. A lot of fans wear BYU apparel. The problem is that this apparel is not only every shade of blue, but white, pink, and many other colors, all sold by the BYU bookstore. They say, “wear blue,” but then they will sell you any color.

It gets worse. When you buy a BYU all-sports pass, you are given the opportunity to purchase “The Shirt” for only $5, which is a pretty good deal. But this year, this shirt was white. I understand that white t-shirts are cheaper to produce than blue t-shirts, but if the BYU athletic department really wants people to wear blue, they will arange for the discounted t-shirt that is sold at the bookstore to be blue.
