Record heat

Posted in Generalon Jan 21, 2009

Fort Collins this week is having a nice little January heat wave.  Record high temperatures are reported and predicted this week, according to a Coloradoan.com article. Yesterday we hit 70 degrees, which was a new record.  Today is also suppose to be the same, also breaking a record.  This sort of heat is bound to quite global warming critics.  I’ve very much enjoyed the weather, mostly because it allowed me to more easily fix my car.

But don’t worry too much, because this is Colorado after all.  Snow is predicted Thursday night and Friday.  And that is the way it goes.  70 degrees one day, snow the next.

According to the Coloradoan, drunk driving arrests during the New Years holiday this year were up, again, in Colorado.  569 people were arrested for drunk driving across Colorado, with 44 arrested in Larimer County, where I live.

569 arrests is a new record since state agencies started state-wide crackdown efforts in 1998.  For the previous three years, arrests have been climbing from 407, 449, and 473.

I haven’t decided if that means that more people are driving drunk, or that law enforcement agencies are better at catching and arresting drunk drivers.  Hopefully the latter.

Wells Gulch hike

Today I hiked the Wells Gulch trail in Lory State Park, Colorado. It was a good little hike, with plenty of variety. Hiking on an overcast day in March, spring hasn’t quite emerged yet, so a lot of the great spring color and wildlife wasn’t present. There was, however, still some icy spots which made things more interesting.

Avago’s site search

I work at HP in Fort Collins, Colorado, which shares its campus with Avago Technologies. I was curious to see what sort of products my neighbors were working on, so I checked out there website. One thing I noticed was their search box:
Avago Search Box

What the heck is a parametric search anyway?

It is important for web sites to clearly present an interface, without making the user think. Puting an abstract term like parametric search just confuses users.

I’m moving to Fort Collins, Colorado

Posted in Lifeon Dec 20, 2007

Last week I was interviewing with Hewlett Packard in Fort Collins, Colorado. They were interviewing me for a software developer position to do programming for embedded Linux systems. The trip was incredibly fun, and the interview went well too. The day after I got home, I received a phone call from HP and they extended the job offer to me.

I’ve accepted the offer, which means in January I’ll be moving to Fort Collins, Colorado. I’m very excited about this time of my life and I’m looking forward to all the new adventures which await me.
