I knew Jay Leno wouldn’t last in primetime

Last September as the fall TV season was starting to roll, I made this prediction: Jay Leno’s new TV show wouldn’t be successful in a primetime slot. My reasoning for my prediction is this, and I’m sticking to it:

In the Tonight Show time slot just after the late-night news, the competition is this: David Letterman (CBS) and Nightline (ABC). All the shows at that hour are basically budget shows airing 5 nights a week.

Shifting to the primetime slot, 5 nights a week, just before the late-night news, and the competition is: CSI Miami, Castle, The Good Wife, The Forgotten, CSI: NY, Ugly Betty, The Mentalist, Private Practice, NUMB3RS, and 20/20.

Basically, by airing Jay Leno 5 nights a week at primetime, NBC mistakenly thought that they could create a low budget show every day that could compete with higher budget shows which longer production cycles.

NBCOlympics gave away my email address

Before the 2008 Olympics, I was at NBCOlympics.com looking for information. I noticed how they had a form where you could enter your email address to receive Olympic coverage updates or something like that. I entered the email address: nbcolympics@jacob…com.

I have an email system where anything@jacob…com will land in my inbox. That makes it really easy to give a custom email address to different people/sites so I can filter my email based on the TO address.

I didn’t receive a single email about the Olympics in all of that time. But I have received emails from Rotoworld.com about some sort of Fantasy sports thing.

What does this mean? The only person I gave that particular email address to was NBCOlympics. If I’m getting other email to that address, the only conclusion is that NBCOlympics sold off or gave away my email address to others.

Not that I’ll be bothered by the spam, because I’ve now switched all email to that address to arrive in a special spam email account.

The rain slowed down today, and some sunshine came though my window blinds this morning which was a really nice change. But more than a few rays though my window, are the many rays of goodness in my life. Special shout out to Lillian who left a comment on my last post.

I went to institute tonight, and it was really good. We were studying from D&C 42:6 where it says, “Declaring my word like unto angels of God,” which makes me think, “How do angels declare the word of God, and how can we emulate it?” We also talked briefly about verse 21: “Thou shalt not lie,” which reminded me of a previous post about how the worst lies can be the ones we tell ourselves.

I’ve been reading some blogs, and I’m wondering why people don’t seem to care about capitalization and punctuation. It doesn’t seem like it is that hard to get it right.

I think there is something about bread which demands chocolate. Nutella is some of the best stuff on Earth, but when I don’t have any, chocolate milk is the beverage of choice when eating bread and butter.

I have a test coming up in my physics class Monday, so I’m going to be studying my brains out this week.

I was watching NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. He was reporting from New Orleans. One thing I noticed, is that Brian’s dress shirt was not ironed very well. In fact, the wrinkle/fold marks on the shirt make it seem like it just came out of the package or suitcase. You would think someone who appears before millions of viewers would make sure his shirt was nicely pressed before wearing it on TV.
