Transylvania is so misunderstood

I spent about a year of my life in a region of Romania known as Transylvania. It is actually quite a romantic, European country and mountain range, nothing like the creepy vampire spooks that are too often portrayed. Take for example, this Transylvanian castle which I visited. Castle Bran doesn’t have any bats or ghosts, although it might have a romantic well (and a secret passageway).

Thunderstorm

A nice little thunderstorm blew through part of Fort Collins today while Sandy and I were at church. It rained and hailed a lot. Driving, home, we saw some pretty good accumulations of hail (up to pea size) and some deep water that just couldn’t drain fast enough. Take a look at some of the pictures we snapped on the way home.

Bell in Romanian Fortress

On my LDS mission in Romania, I visited a little fortress on top of a hill in a small town. In the fortress is this bell which has had several uses.

A few hundred years ago, the bell was rang to warn of attack. During the world wars, it rang for an air raid attack. Now it is used for more general emergencies such as a fire in the town.

When wandering through the fortress, there was a sign next to the bell indicating that it was only to be rung in emergencies, but other than that, there was nothing stopping me from pulling the cord and ringing the bell.

But I think the bell should be rung for other types of attacks and emergencies too. Perhaps it should ring for the economy, or perhaps it should ring to warn of attacks on the traditional family.

Look at all these lights

I was walking through Lowe’s tonight with Sandy, and we saw that all their remaining Christmas items were on sale for 50 cents per item. We found some lights that normally sell for about 7 bucks each, and bought a few of them. Well, maybe more than a few. Perhaps, we bought a dozen and a half boxes of lights. It brought much Christmas delight to my soul.

I have the lights, now I just need the house.

A New Year’s blogging resolution, just a little late

Here I am about 58% the way through the year 2008. As I’ve been thinking about blogging, and what I like to read in other’s blog posts, I’m beginning to think that my blog here is a little boring. I apologize.
So I’m going to make a New Year’s blogging resolution for the last 42% of the year, that I will hopefully make my blog more interesting. That means more personal posts, more photos, and maybe a video from time to time. Who knows, I might even start drawing pictures.

To get started, I thought I would share this photo that I took in Rocky Mountain National Park.

In other news, my parents are coming to visit Colorado next week and I should have some fun with them taking pictures and seeing new things.
