    • ]]>     One of the major advantages of blogging with Wordpress is that there is a wide variety of plugins available.  I thought I would briefly share the plugins that I make use of on this blog.

    • Acronyms automatically finds acronyms and wraps <acronym> HTML tags around it.
    • Akismet come standard and does a very good job at filtering out comment spam.
    • All in One SEO Pack helps optimize things a little bit for search engines.
    • FD Feedburner Plugin connects my blog’s feed with the Feedburner service.
    • Google XML Sitemaps creates a sitemap of pages, helping search engines to find all the pages.
    • Ozh’ Who Sees Ads allows for detailed control of the people who will see advertisements.
    • Permalink Redirect makes sure that pages/posts are only viewed at their official permalink address.  This helps with SEO and with blog migration.
    • WP Super Cache puts less load on my server by caching pages.
    • Yet Another Related Post Plugin is the first related post plugin which I’ve considered to do a pretty good job at automatically finding related posts to display.

    I’ve also used a variety of lightbox, thickbox, and other such pluggins, but I’m not sure which one I would recommend.

    • ]]>     About 9 or 10 hours ago, Wordpress 2.2 was released and announced. Wordpress is free, open source software which used to create blogs, like this one, but can also be used as a simple content management system, like how I used it to create my mom’s business site.

    I’ve briefly looked through all the pages of the new Wordpress version, and visually, not a lot has changed. One major addition though is the concept of widgets. However, because I’m using my own custom theme, widgets can’t be used on my blog yet. I’ll have to spend a little bit of time later upgrading my custom theme to use widgets for the sidebar. I’m really excited about widgets, because I think at least a couple of the custom Wordpress plugins that I’ve written really could take advantage of the widget framework.

    • ]]>     I installed the WP-Cache2 plugin today into my blogging software. This means that browsing my blog should be much faster. This means that you can drop by my blog homepage to see what is up in a lot less time. This means that you should be able to search and read articles much faster than before.

    What I don’t know is if the cache for a page is updated when a new post is added to the page. I guess I’ll figure that out in a few moments when I publish this post.

    • ]]>     I recently upgraded from Wordpress 2.0.0 to Wordpress 2.0.1. The upgrade, again, was painless. I haven’t noticed any differences, but there are suppose to be a lot of bugs that were fixed, so hopefully it will just work well like it is suppose to.

    I wonder if the spell checker from the Google Toolbar for Firefox will work with with the gui editor?

    • ]]>     I upgraded Wordpress today from 1.5 to 1.5.2. Wordpress is one of the easier php packages to upgrade mainly because it saves the settings all in the database and my theme in a custom directory that isn’t overwritten when untar-ing a new version.
