Apples in September

Posted in Writingson Sep 11, 2005

There once was an apple
it was sweeter than the rest
it wasn’t the largest
but the taste was the best

The apple was one of just a few in the tree. It wasn’t shiny, but thats ok, because the other apples were full of glee. They would just hang out in the tree, being happy, thats the key.

But summer flew by, and September settled in. The apple in the tree, found many more friends. Or were they friends? The tree was full; yellow, red and green. They only hung on branches, with apples to be seen.

The old apple, who saw the emptiness of summer, now found that the empty summer tree brought more company that the full September tree. For in summer, the few apples in the tree, they hung out together. But in September, with the tree full, found that the other apples hung out only with the new beautiful apples, shiny and round. His old summer friends, not to be found.
