A flight to Vegas

Posted in Adventureson Mar 3, 2010

The Fort Collins Loveland Airport has one flight, to Vegas.  A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to take this flight to visit some family members.  The experience of flying out of a small airport is unique.  Here is a picture of the front doors to the terminal:

Shortly after landing at LAS, our plane taxied pretty close to Air Force One.  Apparently, President Obama was in town apologizing for some ill-words-said against Vegas.  The view of Air Force One was so close that photos that I took though the plane window were not zoomed out enough to show the plane.  However, I was able to take this photo just after stepping off the plane:

The best thing about going to Las Vegas in February is that the weather is considerably warmer than the snowy weather in Fort Collins.  Unfortunately, our flight back was delayed because of poor weather conditions in Colorado.  When we did land, they let us exit through the rear of the airplane:

And that is a few things about flying to Vegas.

I’ve never flown in a plane that small. I think I’d be freaked out of my mind.

Mary Ann – The plane we flew (I think) is a McDonnell-Douglas MD 83, which seats about 150. The engines are near the back of the plane (which makes the back very noisy). It actually isn’t much smaller than the Boeing 737 planes that Southwest flies.

Now the Fort Collins airport, that is small.

I missed this post somehow. I have flown in and out of very small airports on some pretty small planes. It is a totally different experience, and one I rather enjoy. What I want to make clear, though, is that Our Pres. did not come to LV to apologize for anything, and he didn’t! He came to campaign for Prince Harry Reid. Harry dropped in the polls following the visit, as I recall. I hope you have another occasion to head our direction, and that we get a chance to visit. Aunt Lynda

I like the picture of Air Force One. Thanks for coming!

That is an impressive photo of Air Force One!! I’ve flown out of Bemidji Minnesota on a plane that accommodated I think only 4 passengers–a commercial flight!! Beat that one!! It was one of the most interesting experiences I’ve had as flying over Minnesota makes you really appreciate why it is called the “Land of 10,000 Lakes.” You could really see the terrain and the lakes from that small plane.
