For the Love of Pizza – Let’s Bake it at Home

Love of pizza is universal. Equally loved by kids as well as elders, we mommies tend to have a special association with pizza. If made with the right mix of ingredients, it actually serves as a very nutritious meal. Also, if meal preparations are properly done, you can make it quite instantly. Yet another reason to love the cheesy-meaty treat, right?

Read on to find the simplest yet the most delectable pizza recipe.

It takes two to tangoes but it takes three to get the perfect pizza: the dough, the sauce and the vegies.

The Right Dough

  • Bread flour – 2.5 cups, sifted
  • White Sugar – 1 Teaspoon
  • Active Dry Yeast – 1 Packet (Approximately 0.25 Ounces)
  • Salt – 1 Teaspoon
  • Warm Water – 1 Cup
  • olive oil – 2 Tablespoons

Start by mixing yeast and sugar in warm water. Leave it for about ten minutes, until fully dissolved. Add in flour, oil and salt and beat well till smooth. Again leave it for 5 minutes. After the desired wait, knead it well. Then roll it out on a smooth surface and give the desired shape.

You can prick the dough before baking to let the air escape. Some people pre-bake the dough if they have conventional ovens. Those who use pizza-stone can skip this step.

Use a preheated oven (230 degrees C) to bake, after following the next two steps. 15 – 20 minutes baking would yield a perfect pizza.

The Yummy Sauce

The pizza sauce makes the base for all the toppings.

  • White onions – half cup, diced
  • Garlic – 2 large cloves, minced
  • Tomatoes – 14.5 oz, diced, and pureed
  • Olive oil, Italian Seasoning and Parmesan Cheese – 1 tablespoon each
  • Brown Sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Red pepper flakes – half teaspoon
  • Chicken stalk – half cup

Start by warming olive oil in a large pan. Use medium heat. Sauté onions till they get soft. Now add garlic and stir till the aroma makes your pizza craving even stronger. Now add the tomato puree, Parmesan cheese, brown sugar, red pepper flakes and Italian seasoning. Then slowly stir in the chicken stalk and bring the solution to boil. Reduce heat to just simmering and let it cook until desired consistency is achieved. Do taste the sauce to know if you need to add salt or not. This primarily depends on the taste of tomatoes and broth.

Toppings – The Treat

Here comes the trickiest part for the mommies. This is the part where you can hide the most nutritious vegies. Onions, olives, tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapenos and yes who can forget meat! Beef or chicken, seasoned with different flavors and topped with cheese. Chadder or mozerella, or pizza cheese itself. Sprinkle with basil, oregano or thyme. And you have your perfect home-made pizza ready.

The best part is that pizza sauce can be made and stored in fridge. Pre-cut vegies and pre-seasoned meat chunks can be used to yield a fresh yet quick pizza as and when desired. Which we know is quite often, because yes, mom life!
